Jackee Harry Told She Was Not OK With Kym Whitley Looking Soo Much Like Her

Jackee Harry and Kym Whitley are not related but are now very good friends. Thanks to their cold war on the Internet, their friendship later turned into a life-lasting one.

In 2021, on TV One’s Uncensored, Kym opened up about her first meeting the Sister Sister star.

She opened up,

“I went over to the set of the show “227.” I was sitting in the audience, and I remember a lady named Simone Sheffield. At the time, she was Stevie Wonder’s manager. I love Simone. She said, ‘I got a question. Is this Jackée’s sister?’ And I was like, ‘What? What is she talking about?’”

However, after Kym heard Jackee saying she did not like it about them looking the same, she also added a statement,

“Let’s just go ahead and be honest: Jackée did not like me looking like her. But I can’t change my face, Jackée. This is what I got, this is my face, I look like you, OK? You look like me.”

After many fans created controversy about them, they even started to have personal troubles. The comedian also said that the 227 stars even threatened her.

“She was gonna kick my butt and all kinds of stuff. And I was afraid.

After fellow 227 star Marla Gibbs heard about the statement, she told the rookie actress to stop taking all the abuse and stand up for yourself.

She opened by saying that even though she didn’t follow Gibbs’s advice, their fight turned out to be their lasting friendship.

She opened up that as she didn’t listen to Marla, it might be why they are friends today.

Despite The Same Cultural Influence, Jackee Harry And Kym Whitley Have Different Blood Ties

Both personalities are almost influenced by African-American culture. Though they were born and raised in America, their family roots come from Africa, which sure has influenced their culture.

Jacqueline Yvonne, best known as Jackee Harry, was born in 1956 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

She was born to Warren Harry, an African-American father, and Flossie Harry, an Afro-Trinidadian mother, and raised in Harlem, New York.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in education from Long Island University. She also worked as an American history teacher at Brooklyn Technical High School for about two years before she shifted her career to the New York Stage.

On the other hand, Kym Whitley was born to Kaysonia and William Whitley in Shaker Heights. Her father was the founding partner of the black architectural firm of Whitley and Whitley.

Kym attended Shaker Height High School and graduated from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1979. She was also initiated into the Alpha Beta chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
